'FAB FOOD PROJECT'

Fab Food Project at Church Gresley Infant and Nursery School

On Friday 7th October 2016, children and staff in Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed 'Menu Magic'.

Continuing our work linked to the "Waste Less, Save More" project in Swadlincote,

we learnt about saving food through a special magic show.

Food Waste Audit

During the week commencing 23rd May 2016, our whole school took part in a food waste audit. We were hoping that by the end of the week we would reduce the amount of food that is wasted.

Special bins were provided to collect the food waste from the classrooms (including Nursery), playground, kitchen, dining hall and staff room. Each day Year 2 children helped to collect the waste which was then weighed and recorded.

Some days produced more food waste than others, depending on the fruit provided and the lunch menu. The school dinner of 'All day breakfast' was popular with the least amount of waste. Bananas for fruit break were also popular, however produced a lot of 'unavoidable' waste from the peel.
