Animal Visit

The children had a lovely time holding or touching a variety of animals. Lots of children loved holding the tarantula!

Sports week

New skills were learnt this week!

Children had to decide which salad was their favourite and why.

Father's Day Event

History

We had a great week learning about the local mines and miners. We even made our own mine tunnel!

Maths

We have been counting in 2's, 5's and 10's, grouping objects into equal groups and using repeated addition. We have applied these skills to support our multiplication learning. 

PE

We have been learning how to chip and putt in our PE lessons. It takes a lot of concentration to hit the target!

Art

We have been finding out about Hayley Goodhead, a local artist, and the art work she produces. We have been inspired by her work and created our own zebra pictures.

Outdoor Learning Day 19.5.22

We really enjoyed activities outside today. We made creatures and people from natural materials, played with bubbles, used chalks to create pictures, did leaf rubbings and created games with a variety of PE equipment.

English

Some children have been working hard on applying their phonics in words. 

Resilience

These children worked as a team and persevered with the London jigsaw. They were so pleased that they managed to complete it! Well done!

PE

To complement our learning on Scott of the Antarctic in English, we became explorers in PE. We had to imagine we were Scott, travelling across the Antarctic on a sled. As you can see, we came up with excellent ideas for a sled!

Computing

We have been programming a Bee-bot to move by coming up with our own instructions.

NSPCC Number Day

 

We had fun taking part in lots of number activities for Number Day. We even got creative with Lego!

Maths

We have been practising place value using tens and ones. We love practical maths!

Art

We have been finding out about the artist Vincent van Gogh. We were inspired to do our own 'Starry Night' paintings.

World Book Day

We had some fantastic costumes on World Book Day. 

Children participated in a number of activities and we read a special book called Shine by Sarah Asuquo. We even decorated our door like the front cover!

 

Children also made some fantastic scenes in a box or characters from their favourite stories.

Maths

We have be learning how to measure using a ruler.

Little fluffy visitors!

Year 2 have been watching nine chicks hatch. The chicks came for a visit to our class. They wanted to explore the classroom and didn't mind having a cuddle! 

Art

 

Using natural materials, Class 4 made their own art inspired by Andy Goldsworthy.

Class 4 were very creative with their designs.

Science

 

We have been learning about parts of the body and our senses. 

We took part in a taste investigation where we tasted three different jellies. As you can see from the photos, one tasted better than the others!

 

Maths

We have been finding different ways to make 10.

PE

This term, we have been focusing on how to jump correctly and balancing using our core strength.

Computing

We have been learning how to move objects on the screen using a mouse. Our favourite program was to move shapes to make a tangram.

Role Play

We have been busy designing and building in our role play area.

Primary Books Visit

During reading week we had a visit from Primary Books. Our storytelling session was about Japan and The Samurai. Some of us even got to dress up!

Trip to Sharpe's Pottery

We visited Sharpe's Pottery in Church Gresley. We learnt about what was made there and had a go at making our own pots!
